Step-by-Step Measuring Guide
Choose the Wall Type That Best Matches Your Space
Every room is unique, so I’ve created several wall examples to guide you. Simply find the illustration that looks most like your wall, whether that’s:
- A standard rectangular wall
- A wall with doors or windows
- A wall with wall paneling or wainscoting
- Multiple walls or a full room wrap
- A sloped ceiling
- A pitched or angled wall
Once you’ve selected the wall type that best represents your space, follow the simple measuring steps shown for that example. This ensures your wallpaper is printed perfectly to fit your wall.
Adding a Trimming Allowance
For all wall shapes, please add 5cm to both your exact height and width measurements. This extra allowance is essential for trimming during installation and helps ensure you’re never left with wallpaper that’s too short.
If you don’t include this allowance, we can’t be held responsible for any shortages.

Standard (Rectangular) Wall
How to Measure:
Measure the height from the top of your skirting board (or floor if no skirting) to the ceiling at the highest point.
Don’t include the skirting board or coving in your measurement.
Measure the width of your wall from corner to corner at the widest point.
Add 5cm to both your height and width measurements for trimming allowance.
Write down your final measurements to use when ordering.
Walls with Doors, Windows, or Other Objects
How to Measure:
Measure the height of your wall from the top of the skirting board (or floor) to the ceiling, as if the door or window wasn’t there. Take the measurement at the highest point.
Measure the width of your wall from corner to corner at the widest point, ignoring any doors, windows, or other objects.
The excess wallpaper will be trimmed and cut away around doors, windows, and other obstacles during installation.
Add 5cm to both your height and width measurements for trimming allowance.
Important: Our wallpaper is supplied in vertical panels that are installed from left to right. The mural design will continue over and above any doors or windows in a continuous flow.

Walls with Wall Paneling
How to Measure:
Measure the height from the top of your wall paneling or wainscoting to the ceiling. Do not include the paneling itself in your measurement.
If you’re covering multiple walls, measure the height on each wall separately to ensure accuracy, as ceiling heights can vary.
Measure the width of your wall from corner to corner.
If measuring multiple walls, measure each wall’s width individually, then add all the widths together to get your total width.
Add 5cm to your height measurement for trimming allowance.
Add 20cm to your combined width measurement (for multiple walls) to allow for trimming and ensure a seamless look around corners.
Multiple Walls or Full Room Wrap
How to Measure:
Measure the height of each wall from the top of the skirting board (or floor) to the ceiling.
Use the highest measurement from all your walls as your total height measurement.
Measure the width of each individual wall from corner to corner.
Add all of the individual wall widths together to get your total combined width.
Add 5cm to your height measurement for trimming allowance.
Add 20cm to your combined width measurement to allow for trimming and ensure the wallpaper wraps seamlessly around corners.
Sloped Ceiling
How to Measure:
Measure the maximum height of your wall from the skirting board (or floor) to the highest point of the ceiling, even though the ceiling is sloped. Ignore the angle of the slope.
Measure the maximum width of your wall at its widest point from corner to corner.
Do not include skirting boards or coving in your measurements.
The sloped portion of wallpaper will be trimmed away during installation.
Add 5cm to both your height and width measurements for trimming allowance.
Note: You’ll trim away the excess wallpaper along the slope during installation, so measure as if the ceiling were flat at its highest point.
Pitched Wall
How to Measure:
Measure the maximum height of your wall from the floor (or skirting board) to the highest peak of the pitched ceiling. Measure as if the wall were rectangular, ignoring any angles.
Measure the maximum width of your wall at its widest point from corner to corner.
Do not include skirting boards or coving in your measurements.
The angled portions of wallpaper will be trimmed away during installation to fit perfectly along your pitched ceiling.
Add 5cm to both your height and width measurements for trimming allowance.
Note: This measuring method is perfect for attic rooms or rooms with vaulted ceilings. You’ll receive a rectangular piece of wallpaper that you’ll trim to fit your pitched ceiling during installation.
Important Measuring Tips
✓ Use a metal tape measure – Cloth measuring tapes can stretch and give inaccurate results
✓ Measure in centimeters or inches – This gives the most precise measurements for custom wallpaper
✓ Measure twice – Double-check all measurements before placing your order
✓ Write everything down – Keep a record of your measurements for each wall
✓ Don’t forget the 5cm allowance – This extra space is crucial for a perfect installation
✓ Round up, not down – If you’re between measurements, always go larger
